    About Prospector Plumbing & Heating

    Prospector Plumbing & Heating is looking for an experienced Plumbing & Heating Technician to join our team serving customers throughout the Mat-Su Valley. This is a hands-on, customer-facing position for a technician who takes pride in quality workmanship, problem-solving, and delivering a great customer experience.

    Our technicians are trusted to take ownership of their calls from start to finish—from diagnosing the problem and presenting solutions to completing the work, documenting the job, and ensuring the customer is taken care of.

    The Opportunity

    This is a great opportunity for a well-rounded technician who is comfortable working across plumbing, heating, hydronics, and HVAC systems. You’ll handle a variety of residential and light commercial service and installation work while having the opportunity to grow your skills and earning potential.

    A current Alaska Journeyman Plumber License is required for full technician placement.

    What You'll Do

    • Take ownership of assigned jobs from start to finish

    • Diagnose plumbing, heating, HVAC, and mechanical system issues

    • Thoroughly inspect systems and identify customer needs

    • Build and present on-site estimates with multiple repair or replacement options

    • Complete approved work efficiently and to a high standard

    • Communicate clearly with customers, office staff, and management

    • Collect payment at the time of service

    • Follow ServiceTitan workflows and accurately document completed work

    • Take photos of completed work and maintain accurate customer records

    • Take ownership of callbacks and work to minimize repeat service issues

    • Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked company vehicle

    • Maintain a professional appearance and uphold company standards

    • Participate in ongoing training and continuously develop technical skills

    Plumbing

    • Diagnose and repair leaks, clogs, water pressure issues, and other plumbing problems

    • Install tank and tankless water heaters, fixtures, and filtration systems

    • Perform whole-home repipes and plumbing installations

    • Demo and replace residential and light commercial sewer lines up to septic

    • Operate drain cleaning equipment, including cables, jetters, and cameras

    • Read and interpret plumbing blueprints, codes, and specifications

    Heating & Hydronics

    • Install, service, and troubleshoot oil- and natural-gas-fired boilers

    • Diagnose and repair pumps, zone valves, expansion tanks, and controls

    • Perform system flushes, water treatment, and efficiency tuning

    • Work with hydronic controls, thermostats, aquastats, and related components

    HVAC / Forced Air

    • Install and service furnaces, heat pumps, mini-splits, and central AC systems

    • Service gas, oil, and electric furnaces

    • Maintain and repair ductwork, air handlers, and ventilation systems

    • Diagnose and replace blower motors, burners, heat exchangers, and controls

    • Perform combustion analysis, airflow balancing, and efficiency checks

    General Electrical

    • Perform low-voltage wiring for thermostats, controls, and relays

    • Run and terminate electrical whip connections from existing breaker panels

    • Install or replace equipment disconnects

    • Wire motors, pumps, fans, and related components

    • Verify proper voltage supply and grounding

    What We're Looking For

    • Current Alaska Journeyman Plumber License

    • Strong residential plumbing experience

    • Experience with heating systems, boilers, hydronics, or HVAC

    • Strong understanding of oil and gas heating

    • Understanding of electrical controls and related mechanical systems

    • Ability to diagnose problems and develop effective solutions

    • Strong customer service and communication skills

    • Comfortable presenting estimates and repair options to customers

    • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with the office and team

    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

    • Positive, accountable, and team-oriented mindset

    • Willingness to receive coaching and continuously improve

    Compensation & Benefits

    • $50–$65/hour, depending on experience

    • Weekly commission opportunity after the initial probationary period

    • Earn 5% on weekly revenue generated over $10,000, provided estimated job budgets are maintained

    Schedule

    The typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM. We do not typically work nights or weekends, although technicians may occasionally need to work later to complete an assigned job and take care of the customer.

    There is also an optional rotating on-call opportunity for technicians who are willing to support existing customers after hours and on weekends. Additional commission and an on-call/standby fee are provided for participating technicians.

    Prospector's agreement specifically identifies 27.5 billable hours per week, a 90% satisfaction rate, and completing those goals within a 40-hour workweek as secondary performance goals.
