About the Role

Bob Jenson Air Conditioning, Heating & Plumbing is a locally owned San Diego company that has proudly served the community for more than 45 years. We are looking for an experienced and customer-focused Service Plumber to respond to residential and light commercial plumbing service calls, accurately diagnose plumbing issues, recommend appropriate solutions, and complete quality repairs and installations throughout San Diego County.

The ideal candidate takes pride in their workmanship, is comfortable working independently, and understands the importance of building trust with customers through honest recommendations, quality work, and excellent communication.

Compensation

• $32–$35 per hour base pay, plus commission opportunities on top

• Spiffs and additional earning opportunities

• Compensation may vary based on experience, skill level, and background

Duties & Responsibilities

• Respond to scheduled residential and light commercial plumbing service calls in a professional and timely manner.

• Diagnose plumbing issues and determine the appropriate repair, replacement, or maintenance solution.

• Perform plumbing repairs, installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting in accordance with company standards and applicable plumbing codes.

• Inspect plumbing systems and identify existing or potential issues that may require attention.

• Clearly explain plumbing issues, recommended solutions, and repair options to customers in a professional and easy-to-understand manner.

• Provide customers with repair and replacement options based on their specific needs, budget, and long-term goals.

• Prepare accurate estimates and communicate pricing to customers before beginning work.

• Obtain customer approval and authorization before performing work.

• Install, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures, water heaters, valves, faucets, toilets, garbage disposals, pumps, piping, drains, and other plumbing components.

• Perform drain cleaning services independently, along with other applicable plumbing services.

• Troubleshoot leaks, clogs, low water pressure, water heater issues, sewer and drain problems, and other residential plumbing concerns.

• Identify opportunities for system upgrades, preventative maintenance, or replacement when appropriate.

• Educate customers on recommended maintenance and options that can improve the performance, safety, and longevity of their plumbing systems.

• Maintain accurate documentation of service calls, diagnoses, repairs, parts, recommendations, and customer interactions within the company's service management system.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked service vehicle.

• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the company in customers' homes and businesses.

• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable OSHA and plumbing requirements.

• Work closely with dispatch, customer service, installation, and management teams to ensure a smooth customer experience.

• Participate in ongoing technical, safety, product, and customer service training.

Requirements

• 5-7 years of residential service plumbing experience required.

• Strong knowledge of residential plumbing systems, equipment, fixtures, and repair methods.

• Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting a wide range of plumbing issues, including independent drain cleaning work.

• Ability to read and interpret plumbing diagrams and applicable technical information.

• Working knowledge of applicable plumbing codes and safety requirements.

• Strong customer service and communication skills.

• Comfortable working directly with homeowners and customers in their homes.

• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

• Ability to work independently while managing multiple service calls throughout the day.

• Professional appearance and demeanor.

• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

• Plumbing license/certification is a plus, but not required.

• Ability to use a smartphone, tablet, CRM/service management software, and other technology to document service calls.

• Ability to safely lift equipment and materials and perform physical duties associated with the plumbing trade.

• Ability to work in confined spaces, crawl spaces, attics, and other challenging environments when necessary.

• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts based on business needs.
